Terms of Service

Gaslight

These terms govern your use of the Gaslight app and the servers behind it. Gaslight is operated by Rashid Bahattab Media Production (“we”, “us”). By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use it. What data the app sends and keeps is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

Who may use Gaslight

Gaslight is not intended for children under 13, and you may not use it if you are under 13. If the law where you live sets a higher minimum age for using a messaging service without a parent’s permission, you must meet that age. We ask for no date of birth and cannot check anyone’s age; you are responsible for being eligible.

Your identity and your recovery phrase

Gaslight has no accounts in the usual sense. Your identity is a UserID generated on your device from a recovery phrase. The phrase is held in your device’s secure keystore and is never sent to us.

Messages and media

Acceptable use

You must not use Gaslight to:

Because we cannot read message content, we do not monitor it. We may act on what we can see, such as a UserID’s connections and usage of the servers, and on reports we receive, and we may cooperate with lawful requests from authorities to the extent the law requires and we are able to.

The service

We may change, limit or stop any part of Gaslight, including the servers, at any time. We aim to keep it running but do not promise it will be available without interruption, that messages will always be delivered, or that undelivered messages will be kept beyond the period stated in the Privacy Policy. App stores and device makers have their own terms, which also apply to you.

Ending your use

You can stop at any time by deleting your account in the app; the steps are on the Account & Data Deletion page. We may suspend or end your access, where we are able to, if you break these terms, if your use puts others or the service at risk, or if the law requires it. When access ends, these terms stop applying to future use, but the parts that by their nature should continue (including the disclaimer, the limit on liability and the points about copies held by other participants) do.

No warranty

Gaslight is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including that the app will be error‑free, uninterrupted or fit for a particular purpose, and including any warranty of merchantability or non‑infringement. Encryption reduces risk; it does not remove it. Nothing here is a promise that your messages cannot be exposed, for example if your device is compromised or someone obtains your recovery phrase.

Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of data, conversations, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use Gaslight, including loss caused by a lost recovery phrase or device. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us for it in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free app is zero. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, and your rights as a consumer where you live are not affected.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the bottom of this page changes when we do. Continuing to use Gaslight after an update means you accept the new terms; if you do not, stop using the app and delete your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates, with the competent courts of the UAE, except where the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere.
